Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how LingoArc ("the App"), developed by Yoav Eliav ("we", "us", or "our"), collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our App. By using LingoArc, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Account information: If you sign in with Apple, we receive a unique user identifier and, optionally, your name and email address.
- Vocabulary data: Words, cards, decks, and packages you create in the App, stored locally on your device using SwiftData.
- Usage data: Review history, spaced repetition scores, and learning progress, stored locally.
- AI feature inputs (optional): Words, phrases, photos, speaking prompts, and speech transcripts you submit when using AI features. See Section 4 for details.
- Subscription status: Whether you have an active Premium subscription, verified via Apple's StoreKit.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and improve the App's core features (spaced repetition, vocabulary management).
- To authenticate you and sync your data across devices (Premium users, via Firebase).
- To generate AI-powered word enrichments, translations, speaking prompts, and feedback.
- To verify your subscription status and enforce feature access tiers.
4. AI Services and Third-Party Data Sharing
LingoArc's optional AI features send content to third-party AI providers. These features are opt-in — you are shown a disclosure and must confirm before any data is sent. The following providers may receive your data:

xAI (Grok) — Primary AI provider
Used for: word enrichment, translation, image identification, speaking prompt generation, and speaking feedback.
Data sent: words, phrases, photos, prompts, and speech transcripts you submit.

Anthropic (Claude) — Fallback AI provider
Used for: the same operations as Grok above, automatically when Grok is unavailable or unresponsive.
Data sent: the same categories as above.

OpenAI (Whisper) — Speech transcription
Used for: transcribing your recorded speech during speaking practice sessions.
Data sent: audio recordings of your voice.

We do not sell your data to AI providers for training purposes beyond what is specified in their respective privacy policies.
5. Cloud Storage (Premium Users)
Premium users' vocabulary data (packages, decks, and cards) is synced to Firebase (Google Cloud) to enable multi-device access. Firebase stores data in encrypted form. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy.
Free and guest users' data is stored exclusively on-device using SwiftData and is never sent to any server.
6. Data Retention
- Local data: Retained until you delete the App or delete your account within the App.
- Cloud data (Premium): Deleted from Firebase when you delete your account using the in-app "Delete Account" feature.
- AI provider data: Subject to each provider's own retention policy.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights:
- Use the "Delete Account" feature in the App's Settings to permanently delete all your data.
- Contact us via the App's "Report a Bug" feature or through the App Store listing.
Users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and California have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA respectively, including the right to data portability and to opt out of certain processing activities.
8. Children's Privacy
LingoArc is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
9. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data. All data in transit is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. Local data is protected by iOS device-level encryption.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the effective date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
